Mountaineering Expeditions
Eight of the 14 peaks above 8,000m. lie in the 800 km long stretch of the Nepal Himalaya, which forms the heart of the Himalayan range. Man's conquest of these Himalayan peaks began after Nepal opened its long-closed frontier to the outside world in 1949. Within just eight years, 10 of the world's 14 eight-thousanders had already been conquered.
And though many more climbers have come to test the glory of standing atop the Himalayan giants in the years that ensued, man's hunger for the Himalaya is still far from satiated. The first to be climbed was Annapurna (8,091m.) in 1950 and was followed by Everest (8,848m.) and Naga Parbat (8,125m.) From then on, the number of expeditions coming from different parts of the world. As the craze of climbing high mountains increased in the world, the government of Nepal has opened thousands of peaks for the climbers simultaneously, though still thousands and more to be opened in future.
